Taylor Publishing Company – Trade
Publishing Division
In May
2001, the Trade Publishing Division of the Taylor
Publishing Company was purchased by The Rowman &
Littlefield Publishing Group.
The Trade Publishing
Division, founded in 1980, is
a
publisher of non-fiction adult hardcover, trade paperbacks and
juvenile books. Its books are grouped under general categories that
include sports, gardening, biographies, health, parenting/family
care, history and pop culture. It publishes a mix of hard and soft
cover trade books including 4-color illustrated books. The Division
was recognized as one of the leading publishers of retail books in
the South.
Dallas-based Taylor
Publishing Company, the parent of the Trade Publishing Division, is
a leading publisher of high school and college yearbooks. It early
2000, it was acquired by Castle Harlan Inc., a leading New
York-based private equity firm, and merged with another Castle
Harlan company, Commemorative Brands, making it a leading company
selling commemorative products to the scholastic markets.
The
Rowman & Littlefield Publishing Group of Lanham,
Maryland, will integrate the Taylor Trade
Publishing Division titles into its Cooper Square
Press publishing program in its New York City
office and distributed them through National Book
Network (NBN), its wholly-owned subsidiary. NBN is
the second largest distributor of independent
trade publishers in the US.
